Save Music announces Anna Patalong as official ambassador.

Anna Patalong Official • Mar 28, 2019

Anna Patalong, international Soprano and Opera star, is officially announced as ambassador for the 'Save Music' movement.

The campaign led by the Incorporated Society of Musicians, is focused on the free movement of musicians following Brexit and beyond, and aims to protect the UK’s world-class music industry and global presence.

Anna said: “I am very proud to be involved with the Save Music campaign and honoured to be invited to represent them. It’s something I feel incredibly passionate about.

Francesca Treadaway, Senior Communications Manager, ISM said:

''We wanted Anna to be an ambassador for the Save Music campaign because as an international Opera singer, Anna is the embodiment of the campaign. Musicians across all genres, including Opera, regularly travel to perform and collaborate and this is under threat in the face of Brexit. The ability to travel freely lies at the heart of creating music – music is universal and knows no boundaries. The very best music often comes from musicians from all walks of life coming together to collaborate. The Save Music campaign calls for freedom of movement to be maintained for musicians post-Brexit, or a two-year working visa to be introduced post-Brexit. The ISM is currently lobbying government on this matter.''

Speaking to the ISM on the importance of freedom of movement for musicians Anna said:

'Freedom of movement is essential for our jobs, enabling us to move freely around the continent and work without restrictions. But even more importantly, it allows artists of every kind in Europe to interact and share our languages, cultures and ideas. Collaboration is fundamental to Opera, which is an amalgamation of many art forms, and provides opportunity to, as Oscar Wilde put it, ‘play gracefully with ideas’. It is vital to keep us producing great work, the further apart we move, the harder that becomes.'

Anna joins the Save Music campaign at a especially crucial time and will work ardently to support the campaign and play her role as a key advocate for the freedom of movement for UK musicians.
